CENTRAL RETINAL ARTERY-OCCLUSION IN A PATIENT WITH ALCOHOLIC HEPATITIS
Ophthalmology
We describe a unilateral loss of vision caused by central retinal artery occlusion in a patient with alcoholic hepatitis. An extensive search to define the source of emboli or vasculitides as a cause for central retinal artery occlusion was unrevealing. We presumed that alcoholic hepatitis and low-grade disseminated intravascular coagulation may have been causative factors for the central retinal artery occlusion, although vitamin K administration to correct the prolonged clotting times preceded the central retinal artery occlusion.
