Description
An account of the resource
Objective. To identify the methods used by US colleges and schools of pharmacy to prepare student pharmacists for academic careers. Method. An 18-item survey instrument was developed and distributed to US colleges and schools of pharmacy. Representatives were asked about faculty responsibilities, experiences in academia currently offered to student pharmacists, and representatives' perception of their student pharmacists' preparedness for careers in academia, including barriers in current programming. Results. Representatives from 96 colleges/schools responded. The vast majority (96%) provided academia-focused advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPEs), 40% provided didactic coursework in academia, 28% offered a longitudinal research track, and 42% offered academia-focused independent studies. Teaching methods and creating learning objectives were the most common pedagogical content, while assessment activities were diverse. Time was the most prevalent barrier to providing training for academic careers; however, degree of student pharmacist interest, faculty inexperience, and lack of leadership support were also commonly reported. Conclusions: Colleges and schools of pharmacy vary in the extent to which they prepare student pharmacists for careers in academia. Advanced pharmacy practice experiences were the most common method of training offered. Standardization of training for academia may better promote this career path to student pharmacists.

Description
An account of the resource
In 2006, hospice and palliative medicine (HPM) became an officially recognized subspecialty. This designation helped initiate the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education Outcomes Project in HPM. As part of this process, a group of expert clinician-educators in HPM defined the initial competency-based outcomes for HPM fellows (General HPM Competencies). Concurrently, these experts recognized and acknowledged that additional expertise in pediatric HPM would ensure that the competencies for pediatric HPM were optimally represented. To fill this gap, a group of pediatric HPM experts used a product development method to define specific Pediatric HPM Competencies. This article describes the development process. With the ongoing evolution of HPM, these competencies will evolve. As part of the Next Accreditation System, the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education uses milestones as a framework to better define competency-based, measurable outcomes for trainees. Currently, there are no milestones specific to HPM, although the field is designing curricular milestones with multispecialty involvement, including pediatrics. These competencies are the conceptual framework for the pediatric content in the HPM milestones. They are specific to the pediatric HPM subspecialist and should be integrated into the training of pediatric HPM subspecialists. They will serve a foundational role in HPM and should inform a wide range of emerging innovations, including the next evolution of HPM Competencies, development of HPM curricular milestones, and training of adult HPM and other pediatric subspecialists. They may also inform pediatric HPM outcome measures, as well as standards of practice and performance for pediatric HPM interdisciplinary teams.

Description
An account of the resource
The Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound convened a panel of specialists from radiology, hepatology, pathology, and basic science and physics to arrive at a consensus regarding the use of elastography in the assessment of liver fibrosis in chronic liver disease. The panel met in Denver, Colo, on October 21-22, 2014, and drafted this consensus statement. The recommendations in this statement are based on analysis of current literature and common practice strategies and are thought to represent a reasonable approach to the noninvasive assessment of diffuse liver fibrosis.

Description
An account of the resource
OBJECTIVES: Consensus has not been established as to the best treatment of congenital chordee. Outcomes analysis of treatment options are limited by the prevailing use of ambiguous terminology. We sought to clarify the frequently used term "significant chordee" and to measure the utilization of current treatment strategies. METHODS: A survey covering current practice patterns concerning congenital chordee with hypospadias was sent to 236 members of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section of Urology. RESULTS: Correction of chordee was the primary concern in hypospadias surgery of 31 % of those responding, but it was not the primary goal of 54% of respondents. Findings indicate that "significant chordee" is clinically defined as curvature greater than 20 degrees, in that 75% of respondents said they would proceed with further intervention. Placement of plicating sutures was the most common therapy chosen for 20 degrees chordee, with 50% of respondents electing this approach. Consensus was reached at 30 degrees chordee, with greater than 99% intervening at this degree of curvature. At 30 degrees curvature, 48% used an incisional Nesbit procedure. As the degree of curvature increased, division or mobilization of the urethral plate became the most common intervention. With 50 degrees chordee, urethral plate manipulation was used 34% of the time. Sixty percent of the respondents believed the urethral plate did not often contribute to chordee. CONCLUSIONS: "Significant chordee" was believed to be a curvature greater than 20 degrees to 30 degrees. With 20 degrees, 30 degrees , and 40 degrees chordee, correction was most often approached dorsally. With 50 degrees chordee, 54% approached the problem ventrally. We hope to encourage the use of more objective measurements and terminology. Objective measurements and long-term follow-up will improve our understanding of the natural history of chordee and improve outcomes analysis.

Description
An account of the resource
The World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) has produced guidelines for the use of elastography techniques including basic science, breast and liver. Here we present elastography in thyroid diseases. For each available technique, procedure, reproducibility, results and limitations are analyzed and recommendations are given. Finally, recommendations are given based on the level of evidence of the published literature and on the WFUMB expert group's consensus. The document has a clinical perspective and is aimed at assessing the usefulness of elastography in the management of thyroid diseases.

Description
An account of the resource
The World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) has produced guidelines for the use of elastography techniques, including basic science, breast, liver and thyroid elastography. Here we present elastography in prostate diseases. For each available technique, procedure, reproducibility, results and limitations are analyzed and recommendations are given. Finally, recommendations are given based on the level of evidence of the published literature and on the WFUMB expert group's consensus. This document has a clinical perspective and is aimed at assessing the usefulness of elastography in the management of prostate diseases.
