Description
An account of the resource
Childhood is a central period for career and social-emotional development. However, the literature covering childhood career development and the role of emotions in careers is scarce. In this article, we advocate for the consideration of emotions in childhood career development. Emotional aspects of children's career exploration, key-figures and interests, as well as of childhood antecedents of lifelong career processes are presented. Relations between childhood emotion, behavior, functioning and learning are also presented. Conclusions center on a call for focused study of the role of emotion in childhood career development and how such an agenda will advance the literature.

Description
An account of the resource
Hugo Munsterberg was among the most famous psychologists in the world at the turn of the 20th century, Despite his preeminence and associations with prominent leaders in several disciples, including Frank Parsons, his abrasive personality and Unpopular politics led to his work being largely ignored during the 20th century. One such work is H. Munsterberg's (1910c) Vocation and Learning: A Popular Reading Course, which represents an early trait-and-factor psychological model of vocation. This triangular model suggests that people and vocations arc composed of thinking, feeling, and willing dimensions that Must be aligned to find the most suitable vocation for the person.

Description
An account of the resource
Work valence is derived from expectancy-valence theory and the literature on children's vocational development and is presumed to be a general appraisal of work that emerges during the childhood period. Work valence serves to promote and inhibit the motivation and tasks associated with vocational development. A measure of work valence, composed of perceptions about future work experiences and affects, is developed and tested employing samples of high school and university students. Multi-group confirmatory factor models demonstrated that the Work Valence Scale (WVS) conformed to a hierarchical measurement model and may be employed to yield a general work valence construct or more specific positive and negative work valences. The WVS demonstrated metric invariance across the high school and university years. Criterion validity tests demonstrated that the general work valence was positively associated with work approach motivation and in-depth career exploration and negatively associated with work avoidance. Discriminant validity tests demonstrated that the positive and negative work valences and affectivities were only weakly correlated with general measures of affectivity. (C) 2011 Elsevier Inc. Description
An account of the resource
Emotion permeates human life, yet receives little attention in career theory and intervention. Long seen as a barrier to avoid, recent conceptual and empirical work indicate that emotion benefits human behavior and development. Advances in the interdisciplinary science of emotion support examining the construct across differential, developmental, and social cognitive career traditions. The subjective, phenomenological, and socially constructed nature of emotion particularly suits career theory and intervention's increasing emphases on postmodernism, constructivism, and social constructionism; implicating emotion as of principal benefit to self-construction in work and other life domains. In this regard, emotion figures prominently in motivational processes related to early memory narratives within career construction counseling and the intentionality process of life-career design. Considering emotion in life-career design may help complement vocational psychology's long-standing foci on answering questions of what occupations people choose and how ready they are to choose them with addressing the question of why people move along particular life-career pathways.
