Description

Cardiac pathologies, such as aortic stenosis (AS), aortic regurgitation (AR), mitral regurgitation (MR), bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), LV hypertrophy/dilation, and reduced EF can be associated with ascending aortic aneurysm (AsAoA). Since non-gated Chest CT Angio and Chest MRA do not adequately visualize moving cardiac structures, this study was designed to assess the prevalence of cardiac pathologies associated with AsAoA using ECG-gated cardiac MRI (CMR).

Subject

An institutional cardiac imaging database was queried for patients with AsAoA (diameter > 4.0 cm perpendicular to flow on CMR). The prevalence of cardiac pathologies including AS (valve area <2 cm2), 1+ and 2+ AR, 1+ and 2+ MR, BAV, LV Wall Thickness ≥ 1.1 cm, LVEDD ≥ 5.7cm, and EF < 55% were computed from the final CMR report.
