This article presents the editor's introduction to the article "Reading and Evaluating Qualitative Research Studies," by N. C. Elder and W. L.Miller, published in this issue of "The Journal of Family Practice." In qualitative research, the results vary according to the context. In the clinical setting, qualitative research seek to understand research data and design as an evolving process. Investigators in this setting explore experiential learning and the individualized application of general principles in clinical care.
